Form and Setup Features

  • Form types: Forms commonly scanned with Remark Classic OMR include tests, assessments, surveys, research studies, evaluations, inventory, field testing, and many others!
  • Standard forms: Processes many standard OMR forms from various manufacturers. See the list of scanners and forms that are supported for various manufacturers.
  • Custom forms: Provides ability to create software definitions (templates) to scan custom forms.
  • Multipage form support: Processes double-sided and multi-page forms.

Scanning and Form Processing Features

  • Scanners: Works with common OMR scanners from Sekonic, Scantron, Chatsworth Data, DATAWIN, and Apperson
  • Accurate optical mark recognition
  • Barcodes: Supports barcode reader on Sekonic and Scantron OMR scanners
  • Print on forms: Prints user-specified information on scanned sheets when used in conjunction with a Sekonic or Scantron scanner containing a printer (e.g., date, time, record number)
  • Scan and grade in one step: Scan and Grade option allows you to print a grade on pages as they are scanned when using a scanner with a printer
  • Scantron SelfScore: Supports SelfScore mode Scantron OMR readers so that grading can occur on the scanner as forms are scanned
  • Rejects forms with errors: Supports select stacker to reject pages with errors on them and send them to the select stacker for review
  • Easy data clean up Integrated error correction/data-entry features
  • Capturing handwriting: Input field type allows for data entry of handwritten data
  • Image capture: Some scanners that support image capture can be used to take a snapshot of an area of the form for capturing handwritten comments and other items.
  • Speech recognition: Simplify entering in qualitative data by using your microphone or headset with our speech recognition engine for entering hand written comments or correcting exceptions.
  • Scans header sheets: Processes batch header sheets that provide descriptive information about the forms being scanned
  • Database validation: Validates scanned data against external databases
  • Advanced data validation: A Data Validation tool was added to the Data Center so that you can create advanced ways to validate your data for review. For example, you can create validation rules to transform data or flag certain types of data (e.g. if you know certain questions might be left blank and do not want to review them).
  • Database linking: Links to external databases to pull in extra information, such as respondent demographics
  • Change logs: Track changes made to data files for the utmost in security
  • Email: Email data directly to constituents as soon as it is collected

Data Analysis and Reporting Overview

Remark Classic OMR includes Remark Quick Stats®, a built-in analysis and reporting package that is used to grade tests or tabulate survey style forms. With the click of a button, the software provides many standard reports. Reports are customizable in terms of information displayed, colors, fonts and graphics. All reports can be exported to various formats (PDF, Excel, HTML and more) and emailed in order to get information into your constituents’ hands quickly and efficiently. Decisions based on your important data can be made immediately.

System Requirements

  • Minimum requirements:
    • Personal computer with 2 GHz or faster processorWindows® 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems: Windows 10 or Windows 11. (Note that not all scanners support Windows 11. Check with your manufacturer to see if they have released a Windows 11 compatible driver.)
    • .NET 4.8 (or higher) framework
    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Package (will be installed if not present)
    • 2 GB RAM
    • 1 GB free fixed disk space
    • Screen/monitor resolution of 1024×768 or higher and at least 32-bit color
    • Supported OMR scanner**
    • Mouse or other pointing device
  • Recommended optional requirements:
    • Windows-supported printer
    • Internet connection recommended for initial software activation and email functionality
    • PDF viewer required to view installed documentation
    • Microphone for speech recognition
    • Microsoft Outlook 2007 or greater can be used for email functionality; if not present an internal Remark Classic OMR email client (using your SMTP server) may be used

*The software uses activation for license regulation. If you are not connected to the Internet you will need to manually activate the license periodically. If you choose to install on a virtual machine (VM), due to the nature of how virtual environments behave, activation is required every time the software is run.

** Note that most scanners require a driver from the manufacturer. Not all scanners have drivers available for the latest operating systems. Check with your manufacturer to see what operating systems they support.
