When conducting a course or class, instructors want to be able to see what the students actually learned. A great way to gauge this is by using pre- and post-tests. The pre-test is administered before material is taught and serves as a general baseline, while the post-test, administered after the material is taught, can show the areas of improvement and the magnitude of improvement. This is a great method to quantify learning, but having to manually grade two sets of tests and compare the results is incredibly time-consuming.

Remark Office OMR can change that. The Remark Office OMR software allows you to create your own customized tests in a program like Microsoft Word, print them on plain paper, and scan them to be graded automatically using existing equipment, such as a desktop scanner or network copier. Several reports are available to detail student, class, and item performance and progression. The reports can show the appropriate pre- and post-test data on the same screen, allowing you to quickly and easily compare the two. The data can also be exported to several common formats, such as Excel, CSV, Access, etc.

In order to differentiate the pre-test from the post-tests and have Remark accurately sort and examine the data, you just need to put a small identifier on your form. This can be something as simple as a pre-printed word or a barcode. Alternatively, if you wish to differentiate the tests yourself, you can simply load both sets of data into Remark Office OMR and have the software compare the two sets.

Many of our customers utilize this feature in their own unique ways. For instance, we work with a large network of non-profit customers in Pennsylvania who use pre- and post-tests to gauge the effectiveness of drug and alcohol education courses. Another use could be tracking the performance of technician training, similar to how Rollins, Inc. uses the Remark Office OMR software. Or you could be like the Capital Area Intermediate Unit (CAIU) in Enola, PA and measure the results of a two week seminar for teacher skills. These are just a few of the many ways you can track progress and learning by using pre- and post-tests with Remark Office OMR.
