- *Read Handwritten Responses with Microsoft Azure Computer Vision Account: If you have a Microsoft Azure Computer Vision account, you can link to it and recognize handwritten information using its engine. The ability to read handwriting is referred to as ICR (Intelligent Character Recognition). (Microsoft Azure Computer Vision is a separate charge from Remark Office OMR.)
- Upgraded OCR: The OCR (Optical Character Recognition) engine used for reading machine printed text was upgraded for better recognition. Additionally, if you have a Microsoft Azure Computer Vision account, you can link it to Remark and recognize typewritten information using its engine. (Microsoft Azure Computer Vision is a separate charge from Remark Office OMR.)
- *Optimization Enhancements: A feature was added to assist with optimizing the software for larger operations. In addition, the initial load time for the product was enhanced.
- *Associated Questions: You can associate a response to a previous question to determine whether the question should be read. For example, if you have a multiple-choice question that has an “Other” response, Remark will only read the handwritten “Other” response if the “Other” bubble is chosen. In addition, you can merge an open response with its related multiple-choice question so that the write-in response becomes part of the multiple-choice question. In the previous example, the “Other” responses become part of the original question when analyzing the data.
- Data Formatting: Robust formatting was added for defining how you want your processed data to look. Establish patterns for commonly used formats such as dates, phone numbers, social security numbers, and more. Or add characters to the data that were not represented on the form (e.g. respondents fill in a two-digit date and you pre-pend the “20”).
- *Flagging Too Few Multiple Responses: An option was added to the Template Editor for defining the minimum number of selections for Multiple and List type OMR regions. If a response is below the minimum, the MULT flag is applied when reading forms.
- *Database Lookup Added to Prompt for Fill: When using the Prompt for Fill feature to “Add Data on the Fly” during the reading process, you can now pull that information from a database (as opposed to only being able to type information).
- *Validate & Transform Data: Allows you to validate what is found in your data. Optionally, turn exception flags on or off, enter new data, or clear data for desired questions. This powerful new tool allows you to transform your data to your specific requirements. The possibilities are unlimited!
- Creating Fillable PDFs: You can now save a template as a fillable PDF file (for electronic distribution) from the Template Editor. Fillable PDF files can be distributed to respondents via email or posted on a website, and then emailed back for processing.
- *New Scanning Modes: A “Transfer Mode” option was added to assist with fast transferring of images from high end scanners.
- *Add Additional Fields in the Custom Data Export: When using the custom data export you can now add data fields that are not part of the template.
- *Column Names in Custom Export: An option to choose whether to include question names as well as their associated delimiter have been added to the configuration step of the custom text export.
- General Ease of Use Updates for Custom Data Export: Disabled the update button record count button if the number of records did not change, ensured the first record is selected by default, allow for multiple record selection using Ctrl key, and clarified the add/split button text and availability based on the selection.
- *Prompt for Fill Checkbox Not Working: The “Prompt for Fill” checkbox in the Template Editor was not holding its setting and is now fixed.
- *Error with Linked Regions: A compile error was corrected when joining certain region types together in the Template Editor.
- *Editing Properties for Linked Regions: A problem was fixed where certain settings were not being updated when setting them for a linked region.
- *Warning Message for Invalid Form Identifiers: A warning message was added when trying to save a template that has invalid identifiers (form, page or respondent).

- Template Editor Defaults to Reading Images: If you do not have a scanner set up in Remark Office OMR, the template editor now defaults to reading from image files when creating a new template.
- Generic Keys Support Multiple Test Versions. Support was added for both Standard and Advanced multiple test versions when saving and loading generic answer keys.
- *Duplicate Answers: An error was eliminated when grading with a template that contains duplicate answers for a question.
- Managing Email Template in Report Batches: An “Index out of bounds” error was corrected when you attempted to “manage” the email template when generating Report Batches.
- *Error #5800 with Item Analysis Reports: An error #5800 was corrected when generating the Item Analysis reports in certain situations.

- Image Clips on Reports: You can now include an image clip (handwritten information) as an Analysis Respondent ID on reports. For example, if you capture a name, you can include it on the associated reports, such as the Student Statistics or Student Grade report to identify the respondent.
- Saving Images as PNG: You can now save scanned images to the PNG format when scanning forms.
- *Resizing Regions with Keyboard: You can now use the arrow keys on the keyboard to resize a region’s borders in the Template Editor. The arrow keys + SHIFT will resize the selected regions. Using CTRL and SHIFT together increases the amount the regions are moved/resized.
- *Recognition Improvements: Improvements to the overall recognition of forms were added based on recognition errors reported to our support team.
- *Report Batch Update: The option to “Save all reports to a single folder” was removed. In its place is better naming controls in the folder base name. You can also apply the filter you are using for the batch in your naming convention.
- *Learning Objectives with Scaled Scores: A problem was fixed where learning objectives with different scaled scores applied the last objective scaled score to all learning objectives.
- *Extra Columns in Results Export: A problem was fixed where there were extra commas for unused data in the CSV export format when using Export Textual Data and Results in Remark Quick Stats.
- *Exporting Data with Multiple Answer Keys: When exporting data from Remark Quick Stats and using multiple test versions, all records were displaying the first version key identifier regardless of their actual key identifier.
- *Error when Closing Software using Automation File: A message telling the user to close Remark Quick Stats when automatically exiting the software using an automation file was corrected.

- Email Summary when Using Report Batches – A summary was added when using Report Batches and sending emails so that you can verify the emails that will be sent.
- Pasting in Answer Key in Grade Utility – The ability to paste correct answers in the answer key was added to the stand alone Advanced Grade Utility.
- Pasting in Answer Key in Advanced Versions – The ability to paste correct answers in the advanced standard answer key was added.
- Single Excel File for Multiple Versions – When exporting to Excel and using Standard Answer Keys, you will now get one Excel file with the various versions, as opposed to separate Excel files based on the version.

- *Variable Paths in Automation Files – The ability to use dynamic paths throughout the application was added. For example, you can use it in REZ files, when saving data files and in image clip names.

- *Turn off Recovery Logging – The ability to turn off auto recovery was added. If this feature is used, and the software crashes, you will not be able to restore your work (feature is off by default).
- Remark Quick Stats: Math Fractional Question Grading Issue – An issue with grading math fractional questions where correct answers were explicitly defined was fixed.
- Error Exiting Remark Quick Stats – An error #3704 when closing Remark Office OMR before Quick Stats closed was fixed.
- Missing Percent Sign in Reports – The percent sign was re-added to the Basic Item Analysis Report with Statistics
- *Multiple Responses when Importing Answer Keys – When importing a from grid row or a text key and the correct answer is multiple responses where all responses are required for the response to be correct, the software was changed to allow multiple responses so they are not converted to ‘-3’.
- Excel Issue with Condensed Test Report – An issue was fixed when using multiple test versions and exporting the report to Excel, where the second and subsequent test version reports had an error with the Response Frequency heading labels not being displayed and the data was shifted up a row.
- *Quick Grade with Standard Answer Keys – An issue was fixed when using Quick Grade and allowing multiple responses where the additional test versions were treating the multiple responses as “OR”, meaning any single correct answer was marked as correct.
- *Additional Commas in CSV Export – An issue was fixed where after grading a test in Remark Quick Stats and exporting to csv format using Export Textual Data and results using the default scores, Remark was adding additional commas for all the scores listed that can be exported even though they were not selected.
- *Report Batches Hang – A problem was fixed where running Report Batches would hang Remark Quick Stats.
- Sorting Students Causes Student Grade Report to Span Multiple Pages – A problem was fixed when using learning objectives and sorting the student grade report, it forced each learning objective onto a new page of the report, as opposed to all of them in the table at the top.
- Response Reports Error – A problem was fixed where the Response Reports would state there are no records to run the report if the template only had image regions (no OMR regions).
- Data Center: *Blank Fields in CSV File – A problem was fixed where there would be extra blank fields when exporting data to the CSV format.

- *Export to Excel with Multiple Test Versions: When grading tests with multiple test versions (answer keys) you can now export reports to Excel.
- *Custom Decimal Points in Excel Export: You can set the number of decimal points to use when exporting reports to Excel.

- *Ballot Results Report: A new report was added to streamline the tabulation of ballot style responses. It tabulates and displays the choices in order from highest to lowest selection.

- *Illegal Characters in Region Names: Characters that could potentially cause problems during data export are now excluded from question/region names, including: . – Period, ! – Exclamation, ‘ – Singe quote, [ – Left bracket, ] – Right bracket, , – Comma, ” – Doublequote, ( – Left paren, ) – Right paren.
- *Special Characters Excluded from Templates: Characters such as tabs and carriage returns can cause problems and are now excluded from the template. These items include: tabs, new line character, carriage return, carriage return/line feed, null character. The affected areas of the template include: template description, region name, image region default fills, question text, question names, answer labels, answer codes, blank/mult/duplicate/error return values and ID values.
- Error 32811 when Reviewing Regions with Duplicate Values: An error #32811 was fixed when reviewing data that had repeating values as the answer labels.
- Digitally Filled PDF Files Not Properly Flattened When Archiving: A problem was fixed where PDF files were not properly flattened when reading digitally filled PDF files and archiving the images.
- Custom Export: A problem was fixed where the custom export experienced a lag for excessively large files.
- *Custom Export: A problem was fixed where the custom export was not saving the start line for data output.
- Opening Saved Answer Keys/Survey Definitions with Multiple Data Sets: Remark now properly opens saved answer key and survey definition files when multiple data sets are in use.
- *Non-Tabulated Regions Showing as Tabulated in Advanced Survey: A problem was fixed where non-tabulated regions appeared as though they were being tabulated in Advanced Survey due to a refresh issue.

- Skip Review on All Blank Questions – Review Exceptions was updated to allow you to skip questions that only contain blank answers (i.e. the question was not used on the form).
- Custom Text Export Update – The Custom Text format received an overhaul, making it easier to use. In addition, it creates a new template matching your updated file format so that the newly formatted data can easily be analyzed in Remark Quick Stats.
- OCR Failover – If the Primary OCR type can’t detect a region’s text, Remark Office OMR automatically reads it again using the Legacy OCR option (without user interaction).
- Suggest a Feature – A Suggest a Feature option was added to the Help menu to make it easier for customers to suggest new features or product enhancements.
- Custom Row Height – The ability to customize the height of the data grid rows was added.

- Crosstab Report Update – The Crosstab report was updated to make it easier to select questions, particularly if you want to use the same question repeatedly (you only have to select it once).
- Reformatted Student Response Report – The averages were relocated to the beginning of the Student Response Report so that they are more readily visible.
- Class Frequency Report Update – A new Graph Data property was added to the Class Frequency Distribution Report, allowing the graph graphs to display student percent scores rather than the grade scale.
- Condensed Item Analysis Report – When including missing values in the Condensed Item Analysis report, if a table does not have any missing values, but the table across from it does, the table without the missing values will use white space instead of a count of 0.
- Updated Confidence Intervals – The Confidence Intervals were updated on the Test Statistics and Item Statistics report to enhance clarity.
- Blanks Removed from Selection Windows – When running a report that has a criteria selection window, questions with no answers (all blanks) are not shown, making it easier to select criteria.
- Include Answer Key Option in Export – The ability to include the answer key was added to the numeric and textual data export formats in Remark Quick Stats.
- Always Exclude Answer Key in Custom Gradebook Export – Added the ability to always exclude the answer key when exporting grades to the Custom Gradebook format.
- Include Blanks with Incorrect – The ability to include blank responses with incorrect responses was added to when exporting to the numeric and textual file formats in Remark Quick Stats.
- Moodle Export – The Moodle gradebook format was added for exporting grades.
- Canvas Export – The Canvas gradebook format was added for exporting grades.
- Sakai Export – The Sakai gradebook export was added for exporting grades.
- Blackboard Added To Automation Options – The Blackboard format was added as an option for exporting grades when setting up an Automation file.
Fixes:
- Server Mode Update – Server mode now waits until a file is available for exclusive access before attempting to process it.
- Unicode Encoding – CSV and TXT files now use Unicode encoding (instead of ASCII).
- Check for Updates – A number of new enhancements were made to the check for updates feature in order to make the updating process even easier for users.
- ExamSoft Update – The ExamSoft format now prompts for a Test Version ID even if a Student ID region has already been provided.
- Opening RMX Files – A problem was fixed where certain RMX format files would not open if they contained non-ASCII characters.
- Import Grade Scales – A problem was fixed where grade scale files did not import correctly.
- Comparative Item Report – A problem was fixed where NA answer choices were being included in the report even when set to exclude in the Preferences.
