Shannon Tucker is the Assistant Dean of Instructional Technology at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy Office of Academic Affairs. Her group is responsible for educational technology, web design and development and academic scheduling within the school. She has been working with Remark Office OMR® since 2007, when it was implemented to replace a custom card reading software written in the mid-1980s. The campus was retiring this system due to maintenance issues with the software and hardware.

Filling our a multiple choice testShannon’s group primarily uses Remark Office OMR for the scoring of objective multiple choice examinations on their Baltimore and Rockville campuses. They partner with their campus test scoring group and facilitate same day scoring and combined reports from the two campuses.

One of the special projects Shannon helped us with was our Blackboard® gradebook export. They have a custom written web based application written by a web developer that merges Remark generated raw scores with the Blackboard gradebook based on a student’s id number. This process was pivotal in their success migrating faculty to the Remark test scoring system, since it eased the burden of entering grades into the gradebook. Based on their Blackboard and Remark experience, they helped us test our Blackboard solution to ensure it would meet the needs of Blackboard users. Shannon says, “We think this will be a huge benefit to Remark and Blackboard users!”

One of Shannon’s favorite features is the Report Batch Wizard in Remark Quick Stats®, which she says, “makes it easy to ensure that different users receive consistent reports and cuts down on the time it takes to generate results.” Shannon’s continual communication with us and willingness to test new features has helped us make better Remark products, and for that we send out a heartfelt thank you.
